Can't seem to get a reply or answer on what to do with this engine. It runs fine, races fine, less than 10 hours, but has leak out of side cover gasket. Can't remove cover because of seals to keep it legal; so what do I do? Can I send it back to Briggs, or dealer, to have it repaired and re-sealed to be legal again or do I have to scrap this engine? Any reply would be helpful. Thanks.

Hector, I think I answered this before.  If the side cover gasket integrity hasn't been impacted you can drain the oil and fuel and put the engine on its side for a few days and try to re-loctite the side cover fasteners and torque them to 175 inch pounds.  Make sure to use a torque wrench so that you do not yield the fasteners.  If you do that they will not hold torque.  If the gasket has been damaged by allowing this to go on for some time you are going to have to purchase a new sealed short block and transfer everything over.  If this is the case you can call around because many dealers will offer credits for your short block offsetting your cost because seasoned 206 short blocks are in demand for Pro gas and Methanol Animal built engines.

At 10 hours there are a lot of reasons that a side cover fastener can lose torque but the main factors are:  chain tension being too tight and/or going tight because of too much chassis flex.  A broken or inadequate engine mount leading to similar issues.  Improper clutch installation allowing the clutch to float which can increase stress loads and harmonic issues over time.
